The Study Weekend Open Gardens

One of the highlights of the Hardy Plant Society of Oregon 2019 Study Weekend are the Open Gardens. Reimagine gardening as you saunter through intimate and unique urban gardens, suburban oases and visionary rural landscapes.

On Friday, not far from the Study Weekend conference center, visit gardens tucked into cozy corners of Portland’s Eastside that offer an urban flair. These gardeners have converted formerly lawn-predominant areas into both exuberant and calming cottage gardens, Thai garden retreats, and a much-loved designer’s city escape.

On Saturday afternoon, journey to Portland’s Southwest Hills to experience seven creative suburban gardens. They include a wonderful country garden surrounding an 1897 farm house, a garden which has been lovingly transformed to allow its owners to age in place without losing the garden’s original whimsey and character, and an unforgettable garden where ‘crazy’ begins!

On Sunday afternoon, get out of the city to visit four lovely gardens to the West of Portland and two serene rural retreats. One garden, on 1 ½ acres includes grand vistas.

Study Weekend attendees will be sent garden descriptions and driving directions to Friday's open gardens via email prior to Study Weekend. Full garden descriptions and driving directions for all three days will be provided in the Study Weekend booklet attendees receive at registration on Friday.
