Standing out as one of the most beautiful of the North American native jewels, it is no surprise that Trillium are a gateway plant responsible for seducing people into a life of plant passion. Call it fascination, call it cultivation, call it love--it is fitting that that a plant named for having three of everything manifests itself in our hearts in one or all of three ways. Jeremy Schmidt lives in the southeast US—near the center of Trillium species diversity—and he invites you to hear him proclaim three ways he is passionate about Trillium.

About Jeremy Schmidt

Jeremy A. Schmidt is a broad-based horticultural leader by experience and a deep thinker by nature. Celebrating the marriage of living art and ex situ conservation, Jeremy is driven to create adventurous-yet-translatable outdoor spaces that promote botanical mindfulness. Extensive hands-on experience has equipped Jeremy to innovate radical techniques for cultivating garden spaces—notably, by stacking over 1000 tons of stone since 2017, and by utilizing rock-hard soil to fight compaction with compaction. Jeremy is the Research and Grounds Supervisor at Plant Delights Nursery/Juniper Level Botanic Garden (2008-present) and owner of a small business, Hortco, (1998-present). His home garden, the Bristol Briar (2011-present), has served as a personal platform to trial daring horticultural display ideas and to test botanical theories, while maintaining the garden at the highest aesthetic standards. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Horticulture from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (2005), and gained curatorial and research experience at Longwood Gardens (2006). For more than two decades, Jeremy has studied eastern and midwestern US native Trillium populations throughout their natural and introduced range. When not in the garden, Jeremy is likely to be in his boat fishing.

Zoom programs are $5 for members, $10 for non-members. The program will be recorded if you cannot attend live.
