There is a large area of salal underneath some trees in my front yard. I've never done anything to maintain it but it looks pretty worse for the wear (not sure how old it is, I've had this property for ~5 years).
There are many areas where I see bare/dead looking branches as you can see in the photos. Before I took a clipper to it to try to encourage regrowth, I wanted to check here to see if anyone with experience keeping this wonderful native plant healthy had another take.
