Hello,
I am a new member outside of Portland, Oregon. (Canby) I am hoping to connect with other members in my area that grow old, antique roses. I have experience with climbers and ramblers when I lived in Southern Oregon for 35 years. Now starting over with a brand new garden. Thank you. [email protected]null

Hi Katherine, Welcome to HPSO! I'm a longtime perennial gardener but new to roses. Just planted two Vilchenblau ramblers after viewing them in another member's garden. I want to pick up a couple of Clematis 'Minuet' to combine with the roses. Also purchased two David Austen roses; Lady Emma Hamilton this year. Hope to add a few more in the next year. Cheers, Alyson in Vancouver WA |

Wow, Alyson, the Vilchenblau is beautiful. I had one in Southern Oregon but it was slow growing. I hope to order roses online and have ordered from Heirloom in St. Paul until 2018. I know they changed hands so I am not sure about getting my new ones from them. I have never purchased from David Austin in Europe. But hope to next spring. Thanks for reaching out. Maybe we can share our gardens with a visit. I am moving in to my new house next week. Lots and lots of planning. I hired a landscape architect because I really want to do it right this time.-Katherine |

Katherine, you do not have to order David Austin roses from England. Their American headquarters is in Texas. Go to www.davidaustinrose.com where you can also order a free catalog.

I love the antique roses and the Austins. I have several in my garden (about a dozen Austins) and has run out of room for more. |

I also grow old and antique roses. I just purchased Dr. W. Van Fleet. I love old rugosas and big climbers. I have Sally Holmes and ZÉPHIRINE DROUHIN. I would love to know your source for ordering other than Heirloom. I have Jude the Obscure and Abraham Darby too. I garden in Canby, Oregon. |

Hello. If you haven't visited the Rogerson Clematis Garden in West Linn, OR make it a priority. Near my house in Canby. (30min) and I volunteer here once a week. I am growing two Clematis into roses for the first time this year. |
