I have never grown one in a pot. But, I don't know why it wouldn't do well in such a large pot that you describe. I've had mine in the ground (near a concrete patio) for more than 10 years. In very cold winters, it gets cut back to the ground by our occasional arctic blasts but comes back up in the spring from the roots. Otherwise, it often over-winters as a shrub. Established plants can get quite large in one season. Mine get up to six feet tall and wide. I seldom let it bloom; the flowers are unexciting. But, it will only bloom if it doesn't get cut back to the ground by a freeze. The plants prefer full sun. |
