Volunteering Opportunities

The Hardy Plant Society of Oregon depends on its volunteers to function.  There are many ways to volunteer.  Opportunities are both short and long term, many of which are listed below.  To learn more about volunteering, read below or contact our Director of Volunteers at

Please contact Linda Carson by email at to learn about volunteering for upcoming programs and events.  Thank you.

Ways to volunteer on your own:

Open your garden, once, twice, or as many times as you like, to get in on the fun of hosting an Open Garden, sign up on the form included in the HPSO newsletter, or online, in the late fall.  See the Open Garden Book page for more details.

Bring botanical samples to our lecture programs.  We'll provide the display vase and identification tags for you to complete.

Write for the HPSO Quarterly; articles are always welcome for our quarterly magazine.  See the HPSO Quarterly page for more details.

Collect and save seeds for sharing with other members through our seed sales activities.  You supply the seeds; we'll clean them, label them, and bring them to programs.

Join the Board.  Each year we have openings for new directors and officers.  Serving on the Board is fun and rewarding.  To learn more about joining the Board, contact the HPSO office.

Join an Interest/Study Group.  Although the lectures, Annual Meeting, plant sales, and other activities of general membership are well-attended and eagerly anticipated, many members want to get together with other local gardeners more frequently and in a more intimate way. To meet this need, members of the HPSO have formed several smaller study or interest groups.  Many of these groups are accepting new members.  You will find a list of Interest/Study Groups here:  Study Groups.
