HPSO Garden Stories: "Tokachi Millennium Forest"
"Tokachi Millennium Forest: A garden for a thousand years with Dan Pearson and Midori Shintani, plus special guest host Dan Hinkley"

Part landscaped garden, part public park, and part wildlife habitat, the Tokachi Millennium Forest is designed as an example in sustainability to be enjoyed for the next 1,000 years.

British garden designer Dan Pearson has designed this Forest on 400 hectares of land on Japan’s northernmost island using plants that many of us are familiar with using in a temperate climate.

The day to day management of the Forest lies with head gardener Midori Shintani who expertly integrates this ‘new Japanese horticulture’ with wildlife-friendly practices.

Together, Dan and Midori will share their story in this exclusive webinar, presented by special guest host Dan Hinkley.

Dan Pearson trained at the RHS Gardens, Wisley and at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. He has designed five award winning Chelsea Flower Show gardens including Best in Show in 2015, writes a weekly gardening journal DIGDELVE and lectures widely.

Midori Shintani trained in horticulture and landscape architecture at Minami Kyushu University,Japan. Since 2008 she has been the head gardener of Tokachi Millennium Forest, merging ‘new Japanese horticulture’ into wild nature. She writes and lectures about the Forest throughout the world including the Beth Chatto Symposium (UK) in 2018 and The Perennial Plant Conference (Philadelphia, USA) in 2019
